Health Benefits of Flax

Why Flax
Flax is considered one of nature’s best sources of Omega 3 oils, which is believed to reduce the risk of several forms of cancers, lower cholesterol, stabilize blood sugars, strengthen the immune system, and reduce the risk of heart attacks. In addition, flax is an excellent source of lignans and fiber.

How to use
Flax is most nutritious when it is eaten on a daily basis. Start with 1 tsp of ground flax and gradually incrase to 1/4 to 1/3 cup. Flax can be sprinkled on your morning cereal, mixed with your favoite breakfast drink or mixed with other foods.

To be effective, however, flax must be ground.
The flax seed has a hard outer shell. If not ground, much of the seed will pass through an individual’s body without being digested. Grinding is easy—just use a coffee grinder.
